BOL Sophos: Installation progress bar rolls back/Running installer in verbose mode to determine errors

In some instances, a Windows installation of Sophos will fail and the progress meter will rollback. No error will be output on the screen. In order to determine why the installation of Sophos AutoUpdate failed, you must run the installer in verbose mode.

To run the installer in verbose mode:

  1. Rename the self-extracting zip file from .exe to .zip
  2. Right click the .zip file and extract the contents
  3. Run setup.exe to start the installer
  4. Leave the username and password fields blank and continue with the installation
  5. If the installer encounters an error, an error message should be output to the screen
  6. Search for the error code in the Sophos online KB
