These steps are only applicable for Social Science Class Websites

Here are steps on how to create headers for the main page and uploading files under these headers.

1. Go to “List of links page edit” under “administration for instructor” at the bottom of the page
2. Click on “add item” at the top left of the screen. This will allow you to create a header with a direct link to the article or a link to a page with the list of articles.
3. A new page will appear asking you for “item name,” “url address,” “description,” “place as,” and “under”. This is what you should fill out:
a.Item name: This is where you name your header. In this case it would be “Readings.”
b. url address: You would want to leave this part blank because you’re just creating a header so that all the articles will be under it. You dont want to have the header directly linked to an article.
c. Description: If you want to provide more information about the section/header.
d. Place as: Please select “sibling” because you want this header to be it’s own section and not a subheader of another header.
e. Under: This is where you can select where you want your header to be seen on the list of links. On top, bottom, etc. In this case, I selected the last item on the list so that the Reader section would be added to the last item on the list of links.
4. Click on “add item” at the bottom of the page once you filled in the appropriate sections.

This will create the header for you without a link and take you back to “list of links page edit” screen.

Now you can start uploading articles under the header using “file upload utility.”

From here I’ll show you the steps on how to upload you’re articles so it would appear under your header.

1. When you’re uploading the articles in “file upload utility,” you would want to upload the articles onto the “List of Links Page” instead of the “Main Page Menu.” This is option 4b is step 4 of “File upload utility”
2. The “item name” is what you want to name the link of the file being uploaded, and the description is any additional information you would like to add. (i.e name of the article, author, etc.)
3. Under “place as” you would want to select “child.” Where it says “under” you would want to place this article under “Readings.” Selecting these options will place the article under the “Readings” header.
4. When all of this is done click on “send file.”

Now you should see the articles uploaded under “Readings” on the list of link page. All the steps I showed you up to this point will only be seen in the “List of links” page. In order to have the “Readings” section accessible on the main page, you would have to go to “main page edit” and add a link. Here’s how you would do this:

1. Go to “list of links page edit” and click on “link” right next to where “Readings” is located. This will take you to the location where the articles were saved. Copy the “web address” on the top of the page.
2. Go back to main page and click on “main page edit” at the bottom of the page
3. Click on “Add links to main page menu”
4. On this page, you would copy the web address you copied earlier into the box where it asks for the “link name/ web address.” For the area that says “Name for link on ClassWeb Page,” you would want to put the name of the header you want to be seen on the main page. In this case, it would be “Readings.”
5. When all the fields are filled in, click “add link”

Now you should see the Readings section linked to the main page.
